alex thio, pianistAlex Thio is a collaborative pianist, piano instructor and instrumental accompanist currently based in Singapore.  A native of Singapore, Alex pursued his undergraduate studies in piano performance at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music where he attained the Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance. Alex also embarked on his doctoral studies at the Conservatory, majoring in Piano Performance with a cognate in Piano Pedagogy.

Alex Thio is an accomplished collaborative pianist and instrumental accompanist. He has appeared in performances and competitions organized by the North American Brass Band Association, and was one of the official accompanists for the 2010 International Women’s Brass Conference and International Tuba Euphonium Conference. He has also collaborated in concert with brass artists such as Gail Robertson, Jay Hunsberger, Stacy Baker, Timothy Northcut and Earle Louder, as well as ensembles like the Bella Tromba trumpet quartet from Britain. His latest collaboration included a tuba-euphonium CD release with Gail Robertson (euphonium) and Stacy Baker (tuba) entitled SYMBIOSISDUO.

Alex has also served as collaborative pianist and instrumental accompanist in the Music Department at the Northern Kentucky University.

Alex Thio is an enthusiastic piano teacher who has had 12 years of teaching experience in America. As a Founding Teacher of the National Music Certificate Program  in USA (an equivalent to Singapore’s ABRSM examinations), Alex has instructed students of all levels in piano performance and music theory.
